Daring To Scrap!

Daring To Scrap is a brand new challenge blog with a fab DT so I thought I'd give it a go.

Easy Peasy criteria this month: Use your scraps to create a background for your layout.

I used scraps of Echo Parks A Boys Life from the layout I completed about and hour before I got stuck into this one!

Here's my take:

This pic is of Ethan on Christmas Morning reading his brand new aeroplane book that Father Christmas brought him.

Ethan is a complete nut for anything aeronautical (hense the title of Aero Freak). Everyday he asks us to get this book down for him (kept up high safe away from little brother hands) and to watch the aeroplanes fly all around the world on the internet radar.

Every trip we make to Adelaide must include a stop at the West Beach Skate Park so we can watch the jets take off over our heads!

Loved doing this challenge, can't wait for next months!

January Scrap That Song

Our theme for January at Scrap That Song this month is Nursery Rhymes. the lovely Sue from Lovely Bugs Bits n Bobs was very generous and sent us all some buttons to use on our layouts too.

Here's my sample:

Straight away I thought of Old MacDonald had a farm! We had had the boys photos taken at the Royal Adelaide Show in 2010 and knew it would be perfect with the Cock-a-doodle-doo! range from KasierCraft.
Just check out Eli's tshirt he happened to be wearing!!!
I have used a blue check button from Lovelybugs Bits n Bobs and a Lime Tree Creations red single flower.

December @ Challenge Heaven!

Wow things are very exciting at Challenge Heaven. We have a new owner and things have been shaken up a bit and I am very excited with how things are looking.

Firstly we are having a December Daily comp! With some wonderful Guest Designers and lots of prompts to get your mojo happening. Pop into the forum to check it all out. Registration is only open until the 15th December to get in and put your name down!!!

Plus the monthly challenges have been released! They all look completely fab!!!! These challenges will run through til the end of January so the DT can have some well earnt family time.

In January we'll be having a Cyber Crop too!! Yay!!!! Love a Cyber!!

Your title must be a mispronounciation and the extra criteria is to use a brad.

Here is my sample

My mispronounciation is "Wala" aka Koala. My boys loved to look for them while travelling the Great Ocean Road recently. My brad is a tad hidden, the sewing pattern flower is attatched with a brad.

Soap Journal

I have recently started to make my own soap {you can read about how I got started here and here}.

I wanted to keep a journal so that I would remember what recipe I used what temp I soaped at, fragrances, dates etc. I finally got around to decorating it!

I thought soap is a rather old fashioned thing to do so my journal will have a rather vintage feel to it too. Helps that I have been dying to use these Echo Park Happy Days pp's etc too. There is a Lime Tree Creations single flower on there and a A Lil Something pin too.

August Challenge Heaven DT Sample

My challenge for August at Challenge Heaven is a technique challenge. You are to use corrugated cardboard and a pin.

Banana Split!

Mmmm don't you love banana splits. I do, especially if they are sprinkled with a bit of milo mmmmmmm

This fortnights inspiration at The Lollipop Ladies is the pic above of a yummy banana split and extra criteria is vintage.

Here's my take:

Sorry for the dark pictures. Been so gloomy here, can't wait for some sunshine.

When I thought of vintage I thought of doilies and these yummy rose colours.

I used some Kaiser English rose pp for the base. Then some more to make a water distressed flower to match. The extra large doily is form Lime Tree Creations and will be released at there next sale this Friday! Ribbon is from last months Challenge Heaven swap.

Fruit Salad!!!!!

Yep first thing that pops into my head is The Wiggles!

Actually fruit salad is this fortnights inspiration at The Lollipop Ladies.
Extra criteria is round or square. I went for square.

Here's my take:

I took inspiration from the pink and green in the fruit salad. I have used Kaiser pp's, K&Co dimentional stickers and some chippie words that I inked in white and then attacked with Kindy Glitz.

123 Step by Step

Guess who has been asked to set Mays criteria at 123 Challenge????

MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fire Engine Red
The word FUN
Stitching (hand, machine or faux) in your title

I have also been asked for a tute on handstitching your title!

I just love the effect of a hand stitched title. It can be a little daunting at first but adds some wonderful texture to your page.

Step 1
Find a font that you like and print it in a suitable size.
I have used Velvenda Cooler in 100pts
I like to mark where I am going to pierce my holes onto the paper so that I can get the spacing exactly where I want it.

Step 2
Colour in the back of your title like we used to do in school for tracing

Step 3
Place your title where you want it on your page.
I have trimmed mine to manage it a bit easier.

Step 4
Take a ball point pen and trace the outline of your title.
DO NOT REMOVE IT YET!

Step 5
Take a paper piercer or needle and pierce your holes where you have marked.
You can now remove your title

Step 6
Choose your thread and needle and outline your title using back stitch.

Here's my finished product!

I have used Echo Parks Playground range for most of this, a Little Boy journalling card, Charms Creations Lovely Lollipops, Lime Tree Creations red trim, lollipop and extra large doily, Lovelybugs Bits n Bobs pirate and denim button.

I love how this turned out. A rather simple project, but a tad fiddly at times.

Don't you just love the babe in the frame? This is Eli, our youngest now 19 months, taken by a professional photographer at the hospital when Eli wasn't even 24 hours old.

April Kraft It Up!!!

Thought I'd better play along with Kraft It Up! This month. It's been a while.

This month was a number challenge:
1 piece of Kraft cardstock
2 photos smaller than 6x4
3 different Alphas
4 different patterned papers
5 different embellishments

Here's my take:

It's all there the 5 different embellies are cardstock stickers (the red strip and 'play' sticker), die cut shape (vintage boy), Lovelybugs Bits n Bobs button, October Afternoon Dad card, and a Purple Pumpkin doily, there's actually a 6th with the bull dog clip.

I have used Crate Papers Toy Box range for this layout. It's one of my faves right now and goes perfectly with Kraft.

SBT50 Monthlies!

I just loved the monthlies this April at Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia!!
So much so they are all ready done BEFORE the Cyber starts!!!

First up this month was Vickis Challenge.
Ther criteria are:
~ single photo
~ include a tree
~ the word 'together'

Her is my take:

I used the new Echo Park PLayground range that I had only just picked up that day!

I painted some of the background with white paint to tone down the hearts a little around the photo but it didn't turn out too well.

The stickers and alphas are also from the range.

I cut the grass from another Playground pp and added some twine.

Using green and orange to go eith the title

I used a stamp I recieved from Amanda as a RAK for picking one of her swap themes.

Next up was Sues Sketch challenege.

Here's the sketch:

Isn't it a great sketch?!!! This is Sues first time at making her own sketch and I think she's totally rocked it! Just love it.

There were no other criteria for this sketch.

Here's my take:

Again I couldn't resists using EP's Playground range.

To me the shape behind the photo screamed clouds. So I made a cloud shape form some pp, and masked it to help colour the white cardstock a little.

I added in some Purple Pumpkin and other embellies too.

The third challenge for the month is Ants Random challenge.

The criteria are:

~ Randomness.....just throw it all on the page and see what happens....crooked titles, uneven stitching, splattered paint....all that kind of stuff

~ I want you title to be LARGE. No tiny titles for this one...the title should be a feature of your page.
~ Paint - I want to see paint.

Here's my take:

I just love this photo of Ethan 'smiling'. Such a squishy face.

It was perfect to go with these Basic Grey Oliver pp's and embellies which was fab as they scream messy and random.

Originally I punched some circles from matching pp, screwed them up then randomly glued them down on the base pp. I then painted over them. But as the grey paint isn't very transparent it's hard to see, but it does add some texture.

I distressed the edge of the photo. Added lots of random stickers and chippie shapes from the range.

Cut part of the title (you) form some matching pp to make the title BIG

The final challenge for the month is a Dare Challenge. This is a fun challenge where we get the opportunity to pick the four required criteria.
The criteria this month were:
~ Stars
~ Paper tearing
~ Glitter or bling
~ Can not be square

Here's my take:

I thought I'd take the opportunity and make this into an 18th birthday card for my step son.

I used Echo Park (again) Little Boy range.

Stars are on the pp and the Martha Stewart punched border

Paper tearing on the green pp too.

Glitter or bling - I added some red pearls to two corners.

Cannot be square - nope it's not!

The monthly challenges are due at midnight the last day of the month so you have plenty of time to get your entries in. There are some awesome prizes up for grabs.

Don't forget the Cyber starts tomorrow night 8pm (SA time) too!!! And Lime Tree Creations will be sponsoring!!!!

A New Month.........

Macarons!!!!!!

Don't these just look so decadent?!!!
Yes this fortnights inspiration at The Lollipop Ladies is Macarons!!!!!
I remember when they made these on Master Chef I though ewwww as I didn't like coconut, I have since been told that it's Macaroons that have coconut not Macarons.
So along with this yummy pic the extra criteria is gloss!

Here is my take:

I took inspiration from the colours of blue and chocolate brown mmmmm.

I used Kaisers Peachy Keen paper pad mostly here.

PP's for the base fussy but some flowers and added a Kaiser pearl the then center, a die cut form the paper pad that I stamped with the sentiment and raised on some foam dots.

All the paper was inked with VersaColor Pinecone ink.

Then I inked one of the new bird cage wooden flourishes with some Tim Holt Distressed Ink in Walnut Stain and coated it with Dimentional Magic for my gloss.

Added a little Kaiser lace to finish it off.

....candy necklaces!

Yep good old candy necklaces are the inspiration this fortnight at The Lollipop Ladies!
I used to love getting these at the local takeaway shop when I was younger. Being careful not to flick the elastic on my lips as I ate away.

Love those pastel colours don't you? and the extra criteria this challenge is circles.

Here is my sample:

These Imaginisce papers were one of the first papers I bought when I started scrapping 2 and a half years ago. They are so pretty.
I have used ovals instead of circles as that suited better.
I covered a Heidi Grace oval hwith some cream pp and added a misc rub on from my stash.
Layered it with a white cardstock oval.
I cute the blue fancy cut oval with some Christina Re scissors.
Added some Kaiser cream lace and she's done!

Thought I'd pop on this morning and share the layouts that I created for last months "Colour My World" Cyber at Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia.

First up was the Opening Night Mini Challenge from Sarah who was a lucky duck to be Queen the other month.

Criteria:

LO or card to be smaller than 12x12

plus one of the colours you use on your layout must also be a word in your title.

I like to do a card for this challenge usually. They are quick and easy and it helps to build up my card stash. But this months criteria I was fining hard to think of a card for it. So I thought I'd do a 11x8.5 LO for my Bliss album.

Here it is:

Decided to use this pic of Ethan playing with his playdough. When we made the playdough Ethan asked if he could have 'green please' so that's what we made.

I used Kraft as a base. Love to paint the edge of cardstock with some paint, makes for a different border.

I took some colours (red and orange) from the photo and splattered plaint around. The green pp is from Kaisers Class of '87 range, love that pp. Stamped some blue paint as a border for the photo. I

painted some Jillibean Soup corrugated cardboard alphas with some green paint. Also used Alphas from Echo Parks Little Boy range.

Embelly is from Purple Pumpkin.

The first main challenge was also from Sarah. I had wonderful plans to scrap this photo of Randall from when he was about 3 or 4 dressed in a faux leather bikie jacket and a pink tulle tutu. Do you think I could find the photo. Mum hunted high and low too (it was her pic) but couldn't find it. In the end I ran out of time.

Second challenge was Sues Triadic Challenge. Love the idea of this challenge. Now Cybers at SBT50 can be very interesting as you gain points by taking part in challenges and forum threads, commenting on entries and also by using your av (to match that months cyber theme) on one of you cyber layouts. All of these points are collated and if you have the highest points you are crowned Queen of the Crop and will be invited to set challenges (like Sarah) in a couple of months time. So I thought I'd use my av for this challenge as the colours are bright and match the triadic wheel perfectly.

Other criteria were:

Stamping on the layout

a paperclip

Here's my take:

Love this pic of my two babies. The love to flip their sofas out, set up bed and have their morning milos. This day they were enthralled in Roary the Racing Car.

I used a sheet of Echo Park pp, which I then painted. Stamped a border around the photo with red paint, that I also painted the edges with (see told you I liked it).

Inked a chippie star tab and coated the star with DM (oops it's not dry in the pic), added the date to it too.

I embellished with some yellow paper lace, blue Lime Tree Creations trim and doily and yellow crocheted star, red pom pom trim and a Purple Pumpkin blue spotty button.

I have used AC thickers and Kaiser mini alphas.

I stamped my journalling spot onto the painted pp, stamp is from Kaiser.

I punched a little of the border too with an EK Success square notebook punch.

Thirds challenge was a Colour Pallet Challenge form Vicki.

Criteria were to use these colours:

Aren't they gorgeous bright colours!

We also had to use a mixed alpha title and a bracket somewhere.

Here's my take:

I thought this pic of Eli on Australia day was just perfect for this colour scheme.

I painted the Kraft base with paints of the pallet. Then added some pp's to match (Kaisers Class of '87 and Echo Park).

Alphas both Echo Park (yep I know there is a typo) I added punch brackets either side of the title.

The sun, cloud, boat and kite layered stickers are form K& Co.

Embelly cluster (yoyo and felt lollipops) and the aeroplane button are from Purple Pumpkin.

Caterpillar pin is form the very talented Treens.

Misc ribbon and journalling spot are punched form EK Success punches.

Last night I received some fab news that this layout won! I can't wait to get my pack from Mad About Scrappin.

Last but not least is Ants Lyric Challenge. We were to use a line from the song 'Colour My worl' by Petula Clark. You can see the lyrics on the link above.

I chose the words 'Paint it with your Love' to go with a pic of Ethan with his painted 'robot' (aka nappy box).

Other criteria were:

Some doodling

At least 2 different alphas in your title

Some flowers.

Here it is:

Love how bright this layout is. I only wish that I had mounted the photo on some black c/s to make it pop more.

I used Kaisers Class of '87 mostly for this, with some Echo Park yellow pp.

I have used Echo Park alphas (two different types) plus some Kaiser rec mini alphas.

Lots of black doodling around everything.

Quite a few flowers - Purple Pumpkin, Lime Tree Creations and some handmade ones.

I have also used a 'boy' button form Ladybug Bits and Bobs.

I used a Page Maps sketch for this layout.

I'm a Candy Striper !!!!!

I couldn't believe it when I got an email from Sammi asking if I would like to be part of the team.
The Lollipop Ladies is my very first Design Team and I am over the moon. I just love the challenges.

So the first challenge is Bah-Humbugs!
I remember my poppa always having a jar of these in the lounge I hated them because they were aniseed flavoured. Blerk!

Extra criteria is stripes.

Here is my take:

I have used a piece of Kaisers After Five pp as a base (atop red and black cardstock) cut into wide strips. Some misc ribbon. Lime Tree Creations doily, punched bracket frame.

So why not pop on over and have a go at the challenge yourself!

Feb 15th Show Us Your Stuff!

I always struggle with mulit photo layouts, so thought I'd give the one at Show Us Your Stuff a go this month.
I chose some cute pics of Ethan when he was about 5 months old when we were holidaying at Mount Gambier. He was actually raised up in the air by his Daddy but it's a bit hard to tell in these pics.

The middle pic is raised up on some foam tape.

I splattered some white AC cardstock with some bright blue paint. Used Echo Park pp's, AC thickers, EK Success punches, Purple Pumpkin lollipop flower and ladybug buttons.

Feb 1st Show Us Your Stuff

I finally got around to playing with a challenge from Show Us Your Stuff! I thought the first challenege of the month to use a handmade heart was perfect to use a Lime Tree Creations crocheted heart. And well seeing as it's Valentines Day a card was in order.

Here's my take:

Rather simple but I love it. I have used the white crocheted heart from Lime Tree Creations, Alpha stickers from Making Memories, paint from my stash and misc buttons all on a cardstock base.

Lollipop Ladies DT Call!

I love this challenge blog so though I'd pop an entry in. It's our second eldest is turning 15 on sunday so made him a card that I hope he likes:

I used Bo Bunnys Block Party pp's, chippie sticker and alpha stickers for this card.

I love the layers distressed and rolled look of the edges. I used staples stapled all around the edge of the pp to adhere it all to the cardstock base.

I looks much brighter than this. The weather here is quite overcast and it's been raining all night.

Love the start of a new month with all the new challenges.
One of my favourite haunts is Scrapbooking Top 50. I just love the challenges there and the girl are such fun to 'hang' with.

This months challenges certainly didn't disappoint. I got two of them done straight up! Now my mojo's gone missing. If anyone finds him please let me know!

I tackled the Dare Challenge first. This is a challenge where the members get to set the challenge. All of the DT have to complete it and if you nominate one of the four criteria you must do it too.
This months criteria were:
1. use 2.0.1.1. somewhere on the layout

2. Use string or twine
3. Summer or water themed
4. use the colour blue somewhere - nominated by me!

Here's my take, a birthday card for Brian:

I used Kaisers Seaside ranged. I turned a surfboard chippie on it's side for the sentiment spot.

Next I gave Vickis Challenge a go.
Criteria were:
To use the colour green as a main colour
and to use bling/glitter

Here's my take:

This picture is of Ethan and his Pop when we were camping at Wirrina back in 2009.

I have used Echo Parks Walk in the Park range.

Green is certainly a main colour and I painted the rain drop pp with KindyGlitz for the other criteria.

Cyber @ SBT50!

Januarys Cyber at ScrapbookingTop 50 Australia is now on. They are just starting their second week. All challenges are up and are due to be uploaded by midnight sunday 23rd!

I've completed 2/5 challenges so far. Need some pics printed for the rest.

Opening Night Mini Challenge:
Criteria were to scrap a celebration card (christmas, birthday wedding etc) and use a handmade embellishment.
Here's my take:

I have used DCWV Citrus pp, ribbon from a SBT50 swap, some chippie words that I inked in Cardinal VersaColor and then DM'ed. The atin flower was also from a SBT50 swap and made my Joy.

Next for my was Mandys Challenge. Mandy was this months Guest DT.

Mandy challemged us to scrap a Celebration themed layout using a line/phrase from Pinks song "Raise Your Glass". This is such and awesome song to scrap about. There are sooooo many different lines you could choose.

In the end I chose "Don't get Fancey, just get Dancey".

Other criteria were:

Use bright colours

Mixed Alpha title

Doodling

Here is my take:

The pic is of Ethan dancing to The Wiggles at Grandmas house just before christmas.

I used a navy cardstock based that I doodled around in white signo pen. The pp's were doodled around with black journalling pen.

Echo Parks Little Boy pp's and journalling spot were used.

I punched the bottom of the paper with my Martha Stewart Star punch, and the edge of the journalling spot with EK Success notebook punch.

I fussy cut some stars from the pp's to decorate the bottom of the photo.

Echo Park alplas (Fancey and Dancey) and Kasier mini alphas in black.

Some Recent OTP's

Have made quite a few OTP's over the Christmas season.

The first is my new Order Book for Lime Tree Creations.

The notebook itself was given to me via a Secret Santa Swap. I covered it with October Afternoon Thrift Shop pp. The decorated it with my hand crocheted trim from Lime Tree Creations, blue lace form Purple Pumpkin, hand crocheted doilies also from Lime Tree Creations, the little doily in the top right corner is from Zingas Zoo and the covered buttons are also from Purple Pumpkin, ric rac from my stash. If you make any orders from Lime Tree Creations they will be placed in this pretty little book!

Next up is my Goals 2011 book.

I used a Kaiser bracket tab book. Covered it with My Minds Eye So Sophie pp amd inked the edges using pinecone ink and daubers. Was my first time usingthe daubers. Added some MME So Sophie alpha stickers. Kaiser number inked with pinecone ink. A Kasier wooden leaf also inked with pinecone ink.

I used Adorn It mini alphas to label my tabs.

Added an embelly from MME So Sophie

I printed the goals onto cardstock, cut them into strips and inked with pinecone ink too.

Last but not least are some pencil holders.

First of all I made Ethan and Eli a pencil holder using the Kaiser OTP and Echo Parks Little Boy range.

This was my first pencil holder and I learnt quite a lot.

Then I had a go at making one for myself.

I also made a matching memo pad holder from Kaiser too.

I used Cosmo Cricket pp, misc lace, Lime Tree Creations doily and water distressed flower.

Just love how this turned out. It's sitting here next to my computer so I see it all the time.

Callans 21st Signature Board

Well my baby brother has just turned 21! So hard to believe!
So leading up to the day mum and I were talking about whether she was going to get him a key for everyone to write on or not. I mentioned that you could get a canvas to use instead (my BIL had a massive one for his 40th and it was FAB), Mum liked that idea but wanted something decorative for the edges.
After much deliberation we decided to use one of those chipboard frames that you can slide you LOs into.

Here it is:

Callan loves the damask pattern that's around, so we went for the black on charcoal specialty paper from Kaisers After Five range. I covered the frame with that. The frame is big though so I had to mitre the corners, not an easy task.

The put a nice piece of red cardstock as the base for everyone to write on.

The board felt rather flat so I inked some Kaiser flourishes with black ink and then glossed them with a couple of coats of Dimentional magic. Added some black rhinestones to the ends of the flourishes too.

I got a chippie key shape from my lss and the numbers 21. The key also inked with black ink and DM'ed, then numbers I inked with silver ink first and then gave a couple of coats of silver KindyGlitz

I just love how this turned out. Everyone had lots of fun writing on it (we used a black Sharpie)

2011 Gratitude Journal

Weel seeinga s we are nearly 2 weeks into the new year and Australia, particularly Western Australia and Queensland, are in disarray I htought I'd share my gratitude Journal.
Thank you Monika for the inspiration.
You may have seen the sneaks that I had up a while back. But here is the full reveal

I have used Cosmo Crickets Circa 1034 pp's. Added my own crocheted elements, made a water distressed flower with a Kaiser pear brad in the center. Alphas a glittered Making Memories and numbers are Kaiser.
I still need to find some ribbons to dress up the jump rings.

Here I have used various stamps to make journalling spots

I have used a couple of different ledger papers from Cosmo (Joy ride and Tpgetherness) and have cut up the journalling paper from Circa 1934

I took advantage of this red graph print paper from Circa 1934 and doodled jouranlling blocks

Here I have used the ledger aper, journalling block paper and stickers from Cosmo

Lots of journalling blocks and stickers. Even found some October Afternoon stickers that matched in perfectly

I stamped some journalling spots onto Kraft and cut them out too.

All the tabs were hand cut using the diecuts from Kasier as a template. I now have a puch to do it all Yay!!!!!! I have used the black and cream Cosmo Cricket tiny type alphas to label the months.

Christmas premade Mini Album

I have been loving reading Monikas blog lately. Full of some wonderful ideas.
I saw this one which was Monikas take on Stacy Julians album.

Then I got to thinking. I have been wanting to scrap our christmas photos but it takes so much time and I'm not that keen lot of photos on a layout, guess I haven't really done any. So I thought why not take this idea and make it a premade mini album for this christmas.

So I picked up this at Big W this morning for $2something.

I carefully cut a slit along the top of the front and back covers and slipped the cover sheets out. I cut my own from some Kaiser Christmas Carnival leftover from last year. Titled it with some Sass Lass alphas, and added some die cuts and doodling.

I cut 2 sheets of white cardstock into 6x4 mats for my journalling cards. They'll be a little short but at least this way you can get the 12 journalling cards out of two sheets of cardstock.

I used an old Kaiser die cuts sheet to trace and then cut out the tabs. Can't wait to get my new tab punch! Then stapled them to the journalling cards. Doodled on them then slipped on into each of the 12 sleeves.

The plan is to have everyone write something that they'll remember from this christmas day onto one of the journalling cards then I'll pop a pic of the relevant person taken on christmas day in front of their journalling.

I think this will be an easy project to do every year and will be great to look back on too.

2011 Altered Diary

Last yeah I bought a $15 dollar diary and altered it and hardly used it. Well this year I have vowed that I will use my diary more often but have bought a cheap $2 one from the $2 store.

I have used October Afternoon Thrift Shop pp, some ribbon from my stash and some AC thickers. Very simple. Might add a doiley to it too but don't want it to be too 3D or the bits wil get knocked off in my bag.

123 December Challenge

Well I must admit that this months challenge stumpt me for a while. What's more it was to be used for your application for the CT and Guest CT too. I really wanted to apply for this as I think it's an awesome challenge blog. But seriously how on earth was I going to scrap PINK!!!!!!!
Yep this months criteria were the word 'Oh', colour PINK and to use tissue paper.

So I sat on that for a while.
Then the gorgeous Kathie at Scraphappy Kat had a week or so of colourful giveaways and I won the PINK pack!
Then Scrapware Australia had a FaceBook giveaway for reaching 1000 fans and I won this pack:

What a wonderful prize! I forgot to take a pic of my prize from Kathie, but it was full of pp's c/s, flowers, bling, ribbons etc.

So this is my take on the challenge:

The pics are ones of me when I was 19 months old.

Altered notebooks and address book

Had a bit of a light bulb moment a few weeks back when I was searching for a sketch to use for a layout. Decided that there had to be a better way than traulling through site after site for a suitable one.
Then it occured to me. Why don't I print the ones I like out and stick them in a book! So I did! I got an artists A5 sketch book from the $2 store for $3.95. Covered the front with a fave sheet of Cosmo and titled it with some Heidi Grace alphas. Spent a while printing off some nice sketches. Then I cut them out and stuck them in.
I made two, one for layouts, the other for card sketches.

I have labelled where each sketch has come from so I can reference that when I use them. Below I will write when I have used them and what LO/challenge it was for.

I also picked up a $2 address book. This one is specifically for my scrappy and craft client addresses. Love the little elastic strap too. When I covered the book I just made some slits to allow for the strapping.

Many years ago, when things were tough for my little family (was just Randall and I back then) I decided to keep a Gratitude Journal to keep my head up in the right direction.

I first discovered the idea watching Oprah many years ago. She was right into Sarah Ban Breathnachs books. So I picked up her Simple Abundance: A Day book of Comfort and Joy on my next trip to town. I loved it! I also bought her Gratitude book, but soon returned it when I discovered it was a glorified diary and for $20 (back in the 90's) I wasn't that impressed. So I bought a nice notebook and started my own Gratitude Journal instead.
It did the trick. Finding three things to be grateful for each day helped my mind to keep in the positive rather than wallow in the negative which would have been sooo easy back then.

Many years have passed and I have learnt to be grateful naturally.

Then I came across this post (scroll down a couple of posts) of a scrapped Gratitude Journal by the very talented Monika Wright.

So I have been dreaming of how I would compile mine for the last few days. At first I was going to use scraps like Monika has done but then while blog searching I rediscovered Cosmo Crickets new range Circa 1934. It's such a gorgeous range but I didn't know how I would scrap it. It's not the sort of range that i would normally use. But wouldn't it be just perfect for my Gratitude Journal!

So I headed over to Handmade By Suzanne. I've window shopped in Suzannes online store many time but have not purchased until now. I couldn't resist taking advantage of the 15% off for first orders offer. So I made my purchase and am now eagerly awaiting my parcel.

I still have some purchases to make from a couple of other fave online stores ScrapTherapy and Annas. Hopefully I'll have these orders placed in time to have my journal together ready for the new year. If not it won't be far away.
I'll post some sneaks as it all comes together for you.

All of my products are hand hooked by me using cotton thread. The threads do vary a little in thickness so you will find some items are slighter bigger than others because of this. Makes for great layering!

Measurements of trims are approximate. Due to the nature of the patterns I use the lengths may vary a little but will all be at least 30cm long, enough to go across a 12x12 layout.

SBT50's Crafters Market!

Yep the Scrapbooking Top 50 Australias Crafters Market was a great hit last month so is on again. Last one for the year hehehe.

Well the CyberCrop over at Scrapbooking Top 50 Australia is just about to close. If you're real quick you might get an entry in!

The Opening Night Mini Challenge was set by the Guest DT Member for Novemeber Linda.

The criteria were to scrap a card or a layout smaller than 12x12 and use the word "Life", ricrac, bling/glitter and at least one button.

Here is my take:

I have used Imaginisce pps and Kaiser alphas and bling.

Challenge #1 was also set by Linda and is a Quote Challenge.

The criteria were to take a quote from the following poem:

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

The other criteria were an embelly cluster, at least one flower and use ribbon or lace.

Here's my take:

This is a pic of Eli fast asleep on his lambswool.

I have used My Minds Eyes True Blue range.

This is my favourite layout atm.

My embelly cluster. A hand crocheted doiley by me, chippie big owl, layered little owl sticker, crocheted single flower by me, and I made a water distressed flower using the True Blue pp's and brad.

My quote using Kaiser tiny alphas and a True Blue layered sticker

I made this journalling spot by stamping a Kasier bracket stamp on some legder True Blue paper, the leave stamp is True Blue and the alphas are Kaisers Tiny alphas.

Challenge #2 was set by Vicki a Recycling challenge.

The criteria were to use recycled products on your layout. I struggled with this a bit and am not real happy with how it turned out, but vicki was very clever and created her entire layout using recycled products!

Here's my take:

Everything is either recycled or free to me.

The base is cardboard from an old nappy box. The navy paint is leftover from another project. The mesh is from an orange bag. red pp, photo and title from another layout that wasn't working. Material across the bottom and used to cover the self covering button was one of the bys baby wraps, even the raw button was from mum ages ago. The twine from some packaging. Flower is made from a paper bag and I have stamped on it. Journalling spot was received in a swap.

Challenge #3 is a Remember challenge from Ant.

The criteria was to use a photo that wasn't to be 6x4 that evoked fond memories and to use the word 'remember' somewhere.

This is my take:

Pics are of Randall when he was 21 months old (PixiFoto) and this years school photo aged 14 years.

I have used My Minds Eyes Alphabet Soup boy range for this layout. Plus some crochetd items of mine and misc buttons and twine.

Our fourth and final challenge was set by Sue. We were to use 2 or more photos to depict the day in the life of someone or something.

Other criteria were to do some inking and to use chipboard other than alphas.

Here's my take:

I chose Ethan my 2 year old as my subject.

I have used a pp from Basic Greys Oliver range as the base and painted over it with Kaiser Navy paint.

All the pics were snaded ont he edges then inked, matted on some red Oliver pp, distressed and inked again. The base pp is also distressed and inked.

I has some cog that I recieved in a swap so I stamped them and added some more chippie cogs and buttons from Oliver.

I'm a Beautiful Blogger!

The Gorgeous Cathy has nominated me for the Beautiful Blogger Award.

The deal is I now have to tell you 10 things about myself, so here goes!
1. I met Brian at TAFE, we were studying out Cert 3's, he in disability me in aged care.
2. I hae always been crafty, starting with cross stitch, crochet and scrapbooking and now get to include my crochet in my scrapping.
3. I would love to have a white christmas with all my family just once.
4. I can't live without chocolate
5. I aspire to be a 50's housewife, but expect it of me for one second and the 70's feminist come out!
6. Have recently realised that I love 50's vintage, part of coming to terms with #5 above.
7. I dream all day of creating and what I am going to do next.
8. I love creating and cooking for my family, it gives me such great pleasure.

November Stuck?!

The first sketch for this month at Stuck?! is a little our of the normal for me. It lends itself to a A4 page but I just couldn't do but. I tried but couldn't.

It's such a simple sketch so I wanted the photo to be the focus of my page. I've had this pic of Ethan bum in the shower when he was probably about 8 months old for a while. I love the dimples so had to take the pic. Black and white suited it perfectly too.

I bought these Imaginisce papers when I first started scrapping and have used them a bit but still had some leftover so chose to use them as the pale blue is a great contrast to the B&W.

Cute ribbon and pin (added beads) from The Stamp Spot, Jenni Bowlin journaling card, my own crocheted funky flowers topped with a Purple Pumpkin button with Kaiser Pearls added.

SBT50 Scraplift Challenge

Isn't this a gorgeous LO by the very talented Marelize!

Vicki set the challenge to scraplift at least 3 elements from Marelizes LO.

This is my take:

I have taken the paper range (Kaisers Homemade), the lace, flowers, and tiny alpha elements.

When I first saw this paper range I thought it was lovely but that I probably wouldn't use it. I love this LO. The colours were perfect for this photo.
This pic is of the frist time Ethan decided to roughhouse with Brian. It was christmas day 2008. The info is on the tag behind the photo. There is also an embossed calendar there too that is form the Septmeber Scrap The Boys Swap. The clock is also from the same swap.

The crocheted flower is my own and I have made a water distressed flower from the scraps and topped it with an Itty Bitty flower and a Kaiser Pearl Brad. I am in love with this flower!

SBT50 November Challenges

Here is my first LO for the challenges this month. This is for Sue's Inspiration challenge
We needed to use this pic as inspiration, explain what elements we have used and we must use layering.

Isn't it a fab cake?!

Here's my take:

Straight away I thought to use Bo Bunnys Block Party range. The colours were just perfect! I have used simialr patters, the dots and stripes. Lots of stars too! All layers on some white cardstock to reprsent the white background of the photo.

I finally got to use my Martha Stewart star punch too!

The gorgeous Sue Plumb sent me a link to Out of The Hats Facebook page so I thougth I'd check them out.
I loved the criteria for this month so gave it a go.

Use corregated cardboard

Here's my take:

I have used a piece of cardboard from a box of nappies. I stripped some of the top card off to expose the corregations.

Painted it with Chromalactyl Light Green Paint.

I cut the grass from Kaisers Jungle Bug papers.
The rest of the LO is made from either Kaisers Jungle Bugs or Echo Parks Walk in the Park.

The suns center is a button from Purple Pumpkin.
